Talks on Migration (ToM) 7

The seventh of the Talks on Migration series took place on December 8, 2021, via Zoom.

Prof. Dr. Helga Tılıç was the keynote speaker of this session.

Professor has delivered a speech titled “Human Mobility Becomes ‘Unwanted’ Migration When Meeting Borders: Tactics and Technologies of Migration Management”.

European Integration and Migration Conference, 2021

On November 9, 2021, the conference on European Integration and Migration was held at Erciyes University via Zoom.

The conference started with the opening speeches of Prof. Dr. Yunus Yoldaş and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülüm Özçelik.

Firstly, Prof. Dr. Sevilay Kahraman talked on “European Integration After Brexit”. During her speech, she touched upon several scenarios for the future of European integration .

Then Prof. Dr. Osman Can Ünver delivered a speech titled “Europe’s Current Apathy Towards Human Rights of the Migrants”. He touched upon the shift in the economic structure of today’s world and the rise of anti-immigration perspectives while explaining the apathy towards the human rights of the migrants.

The first session is concluded with the speech of Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlke Göçmen on “The General Framework of Turkey-EU Association Law”.

Following the break, the second session started with Dr. Çiçek Özgür, and she touched upon the” Temporary Protection Under EU and Turkish Law”.

After that, Av. Menekşe Şahin continued with her speech regarding “The Activities of the Legal Affairs Working Group in Kayseri Immigration Office”. She covered the details of deportation decisions from a legal perspective during her presentation.

Finally, Pelin Ergenç Bulut focused on “The Activities Carried Out in Kayseri within the Field of Regular Migration”. She explained different options of residency permits for migrants in her speech.

It has been a very productive and fruitful conference!

European Integration and Migration Conference

On March 26, 2021, the conference on European Integration and Migration was held via Zoom at Atatürk University.

The conference has started with the opening speeches of Dr. Özgür Temiz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülüm Özçelik.

In the first session, Dr. Esra Yıldız Üstün gave a speech titled “Internal Protection Alternative”.

Following that, Haşim Özcan, the director of Erzurum Immigration Office, gave a speech on the establishment, operation, and control of the Aşkale Repatriation Center in the context of Erzurum.

Then Sinem Bayram Dumludağ spoke about “Migration and Integration”.

In the second session, Prof. Dr. Sanem Baykal talked about Turkey-EU relations as regards the migration issues.

After that, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salimya Ganiyeva talked about “The Legal Effects of Turkish Immigration to European Countries within Turkish Law.”

Lastly, Dr. Bahar Küpe gave a speech on the “Temporary Protection Under the EU and Turkish Law”.

Finally, a Q&A session has been carried out. Overall it has been a very productive and fruitful conference! We hope to see you at other talks and conferences.

European Integration and Migration Conference

On 13th of November, the conference on European Integration and Migration was held via Zoom; and the participation to the conference was satisfactorily high.

Prof. Dr. Sanem Baykal, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülüm Özçelik and Akif Atlı, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, made speeches on Turkey-EU relations as regards the migration issues, development of migration law in the EU and efforts for refugee protection in Turkey respectively.

At the end of the conference, a very thought-provoking Q&A session has been carried out.
