Talks on Migration (ToM) 5

The fifth of the Talks on Migration series took place on March 9, 2021, via Zoom.

Dr. Verónica Ruiz Abou-Nigm, Edinburgh Law School, was the keynote speaker of this session.

She has delivered a speech titled “Regional Migration Governance: Soft Law and the Diffusion of Policies on Integration and Inclusion”.

Dr. Abou-Nigm explained the context of South America while she has introduced regional governance of migrants. Also, she has highlighted that South America has the most developed instruments after the EU while she was diving into the details of intra-regional diffusion of national laws and implementation deficiencies.

Moreover, Dr. Abou-Nigm touched upon soft law’s role and its chances to narrow the implementation deficiencies.

At the end of her speech, a very fruitful Q&A session has been carried out, and the importance of public opinion in the social integration of migrants has been emphasized.

European Integration and Migration Conference

The last European Integration and Migration Conference of this academic term was held on December 30, 2020. The participation to the conference was very high and satisfactory.

Prof. Dr. Sanem Baykal, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülüm Özçelik and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Candan made speeches on various aspects of European Union Law and European Migration Law.

At the end of the conference, a very fruitful Q&A session has been carried out.
